EAST Dunbartonshire's MSPs have welcomed news East Dunbartonshire Council will resettle refugees from Calais and Syria.
Four unaccompanied children from the former ‘Jungle’ camp in Calais and four families from Syria will be rehomed in East Dunbartonshire following agreement from the council who agreed to start the process at last week’s full council meeting.
Rona Mackay, the MSP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden, said: “At long last, I am very glad some of these desperate refugees will find a home in East Dunbartonshire. I know that they will receive a warm welcome from everyone here who have witnessed their heartbreaking plight.
“However, I am confident the region has the means to help more, like our neighbouring local authorities in Glasgow or West Dunbartonshire – but this is good start.”
Gil Paterson, the MSP for Clydebank and Milngavie, said: “I hope the children and families will find some comfort being here in East Dunbartonshire, what they have been through is unimaginable.”
