CLYDEBANK’S Member of the Scottish Parliament has commented on the sentencing of Paige Doherty’s killer.
Today, John Leathem was sent to prison for a minimum 27 years for murdering the 15-year-old in March this year. Gil Paterson, the MSP for Clydebank and Milngavie, said: “My deepest sympathies once again go out to Pamela Munro and the rest of Paige’s family and friends in this incredibly difficult time. I hope the sentencing of John Leathem allows some closure after what has been a horrific time for them. “The court’s decision of locking John Leathem up for 27 years never going to satisfy everyone, but within the confines of Scots Law, this is a hefty sentencing. It captures well the horror the public still feels about the murder of 15-year-old Paige. “This callous murder shocked the whole of Clydebank and indeed Scotland — but the way the community rallied around Paige’s family and honoured her after the tragic news broke was truly humbling. For that, I am proud of the people of Clydebank and the role they played since March.” |
