A MAJOR retailer leaving Clydebank is a blow to the town's shopping experience, Gil Paterson MSP said.
In June, it was announced BHS would be going into liquidation after administrators Duff and Phelps failed to find a new buyer. Gil Paterson MSP warned it was a blow to the retail experience in Clyde Shopping Centre. Mr Paterson said: "My thoughts are with the staff at BHS in Clydebank who now face being unemployed. "What has happened to this historic business is nothing short of a corporate catastrophe where former owners have walked off with millions of pounds, and left workers with a very raw deal. "The fact there is a deficit in the pension fund is a disgrace, and I welcome the grilling the BHS bosses have received from MPs. "Clyde Shopping Centre now has a window of opportunity to find a vibrant new business to take over the major unit. I hope this happens sooner rather than later, and the redundant workers can find a place in it if they so wish." |
